Learning Journey

In Drama lessons at key stage 2, 3 and 4 students learn vital life skills such as listening, speaking within a group and respect for others. They also learn about drama as an art form covering a range of topics and texts. We focus on 3 key areas: Communication, Creativity and Confidence, aiming to develop each of these across the key stages, building on prior skills and knowledge each step of the way

At key stage 4 students take part in speaking and listening lessons which cover the speaking and listing elements of the English courses at entry level, functional skills and GCSE. These include group discussions and individual presentations.

Extra-curricular productions are well established at High Close. We take part in the Shakespeare Schools Festival each winter, and are now a 'Gold Shakespeare School' which celebrates our commitment to the arts, and ensuring access to high quality arts events. We also put on a musical performance at school in the summer..

We also offer Arts Award as a key stage 4 option. This is a nationally recognised qualification at Bronze (level 1) and Silver (level 2). We have a good uptake on the course and a 100% pass rate. Students can study a range of art forms, depending on their interests. In the past this has included animation, acting, film making, directing, dancing, stage make up and mask design.
