High Close’s Rowan unit is responsible for KS2 provision. Rowan is situated in a separate building enabling a ‘primary ethos’ throughout our setting.

Rowan Handbook

Rowan is set in the grounds of High Close School.  Located in a secluded area with outdoor play space it is also home to our chickens who have an extensive run adjacent to the building.  Plans are afoot to enhance the area to create additional outdoor learning spaces.  This includes raised beds for pupils to garden and a calm sensory area.

Rowan consists of three learning groups of no more than six pupils.  Lessons are taught and supported by a teacher and at least one Learning Support Assistant.  Our staff have a wealth of experience and qualifications in teaching and caring for pupils with a range of special educational and behavioural needs. As well as the staff working in the classrooms there are additional pastoral staff. The whole team receive ongoing training and development from our Head of Therapies, Speech and Language therapist and Occupational Therapist.

The pupils attending Rowan have a broad and complex range of needs, backgrounds and educational experiences. This affects their ability to engage with learning and social situations. Pupils often have multiple diagnoses and a comprehensive EHCP. Our intension is to provide a safe and happy learning environment that can adapt to the individual needs of the child.  At High Close we offer a rich and varied curriculum with a strong emphasis upon social and emotional development, and the acquisition of life skills as well as building confidence and resilience to ensure academic achievement.
