Learning Journey

The curriculum at key stages 2, 3 & 4 allows pupils to further their practical knowledge and contextual understanding as well as develop their confidence. Pupils are introduced to a variety of 2D and 3D based work including drawing, painting, collage, sculpture and photography. Cross-curricular links with other subjects help build on and develop the pupils learning.

In Year 10 pupils follow the ASDAN Expressive Arts Short Course Award which credits up to 60 hours of expressive and creative arts activities. The flexibility of the Expressive Arts Short Course means it can be completed over a period of time that suits the individual needs of our pupils.

In Year 11 pupils either continue working towards the ASDAN Expressive Arts Course or the Entry Level Certificate which is designed to give a broad, coherent, satisfying and worthwhile course of study. At Key Stage 4 there is also the potential for pupils to work towards the GCSE Art & Design qualification.

The school benefits from good transport connections to Reading and London which means pupils are exposed to a variety of museum and gallery visits.

The Art and Design department is a place pupils feel safe, can build confidence and where they are encouraged to express themselves creatively.
